Downtown Altamonte’s Gateway project takes shape with new apartments

A North Carolina developer is working on the first piece of an 80-acre mixed-use development in Altamonte Springs — bringing new luxury rental homes to a job-rich area in the region.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Crescent Communities LLC, started vertical construction on the  249-unit Crescent Gateway Apartments and hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking event on May 15 to highlight the estimated $20.3 million project. The developer’s related Crescent Multifamily Construction division is the project general contractor and Maitland-based Charlan Brock & Associates Inc. is the architect.

The apartments, being built at the southeast corner of Gateway Drive and Inspiration Avenue stretching south to Maitland Boulevard, will feature granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, upscale lighting and USB ports, along with amenities including a resort-style pool, yoga lawn and dog park.

Additionally, residents are within walking distance of an existing Publix-anchored shopping center, developed by Crescent in 2000, and close to major employers such as EA Tiburon, Charles Schwab and Adventist Health System, said a news release.

The apartments, set for a summer 2015 completion, are the first phase of  a larger development set to bring 300,000 square feet of office, retail and, possibly, a hotel to the project.
